Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of art and architecture, focusing on the subjective nature of interpretation and how it depends on the viewer`s understanding and cultural context. The history of art interpretation should be understood as the study of the meaning of a work of art, which may include its historical, cultural, social as well as political context. Similarly, the interpretation of architecture involves analysing components such as the meaning of a building`s design, style and construction. Architecture has evolved to reflect changing ideals and attitudes in the modern period. The Industrial Revolution led to the development of new materials and building processes, giving rise to new architectural styles such as Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
