Abstract

SEL involves the processes by which people acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to understand and manage their emotions, to feel and show empathy for others, to establish and achieve positive goals, to develop and maintain positive relationships, and to make responsible decisions. Based on extensive research, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) has identified five interrelated competencies that are central to SEL: self-awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making (CASEL, 2020).

Kimberly and colleagues mentioned that teachers are the engine that drives SEL programs and practices in schools and classrooms (Kimberly, 2017). Yet until recently, their role in promoting SEL and their own social and emotional competence and wellbeing have received scant attention. What do we know about teachers and SEL? The main aim of the study is explain the teachers’ role and the impact of the SEL programs.
