THE TRAVEL POETRY IN LITERATURE OF KAZAKHSTAN ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE CREATIVE WRITINGS OF F. BAIGELDINOV AND F. TAMENDAROV

Abstract

Contemporary literature of Kazakhstan is characterized by a variety of artistic ways of understanding space and human experience. One of the productive directions of such understanding is the poetry of travel, where geographical movement gains the significance of aesthetic, cultural, and spiritual experience. Travel allows the lyrical hero to go beyond familiar spaces, see other countries and cities, connect with the history and culture of different peoples, and at the same time feel their own connection to their homeland in a new way. In this regard, the poems of Kazakhstani poets Farid Baigeldinov, included into the collection “Astral Gaze” (2006) [1], and Farhat Tamendarov in the collection “The Moment of Inspiration” (2010) are of particular interest [2].

Both poets' appeal to traveling is naturally connected to the biographical and cultural experience of a person at the turn of the XX-XXI centuries. However, their artistic approaches to travel differ significantly. F. Baigeldinov mainly focuses on the European cultural space – aris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Venice, Rome. His travel becomes a way of encountering history and art, and the cities he sees turn into a kind of cultural text. F. Tamendarov uses a much broader geographic range: Egypt, Dubai, Mauritius, Shanghai, Rome, London, the Maldives. His lyrical character finds himself in various parts of the world, experiencing space through direct impressions, movement, and sensory and visual details.
