Abstract

This study introduces a home chemistry course and its implications for organic chemistry education. Chemistry in the home is considered a key learning environment for participants to achieve important goals in science. Home chemistry, as a form of interdisciplinary education, is aimed at developing and supporting intellectual skills and scientific thinking of students. The purpose of this study was to determine how context-based learning, as a context-based learning approach, can be applied to real-life chemistry education and what it can offer to enhance chemistry teaching and learning. We found that hands-on chemistry allows high school students to understand chemical phenomena in a familiar context. They found teaching home chemistry to be an interesting form of chemistry. According to the participants of the domestic chemistry course, their enthusiasm and inspiration were noticeable and they expressed positive opinions about the course. These findings suggest that teachers and pedagogic students should be guided to actively use integration.
