Gender specifics of the Azerbaijann labor market

Abstract

Before starting a conversation about the gender characteristics of the Azerbaijann labor market, it is necessary to understand what we mean by the word “gender equality” and why should we strive for it?

What does "gender equality" mean? For us, the concept of "gender equality" means: equality of citizens, men and women, before the law, that is, equality of rights; equality of opportunity in exercising one's rights - equal access to resources; and equality of citizens of both sexes in the opportunity to express their opinions and interests.

At the same time, it is necessary to distinguish gender equality from equality in the results obtained. If there are three first equalities, then this will not necessarily lead to equality of results, the achievement of which is due either to the free choice of men and women, or the obligation to comply with the norms imposed by society.
