Abstract

The organization of research work for undergraduate students in economics has its own specific features, which were identified as part of a pedagogical experiment during the implementation of the research project "Innovative Model for Improving Student Research Work in Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan" (Project IRN AR19676691). The research questions were aimed at studying various aspects, from preparing and engaging students in research from the early years of study to integrating research projects into the educational process [1].

The research methodology is based on a sociological survey of university students using Google Forms questionnaires. The survey included students from 1st to 4th years. The sample consisted of approximately 5,000 people. Among them, over 500 students were majoring in economics. Most of the respondents majoring in economics were first-year (37%) and third-year (35%) students, with 16.8% in the second year.

Among the surveyed economics students, the percentage of male respondents was 38.33%, while female respondents made up 61.67%, which differs significantly from the general sample (female: 52.71%, male: 47.29%). Most of the students were 17 to 18 years old (44.79%), with 42.71% aged 19 to 20, and 9.79% aged 21 to 22. The majority of economics students assessed their family's economic situation as average (71.14%), with only 21.78% reporting above-average wealth and 3% indicating below-average income or being unsure. Furthermore, 53% of surveyed students combined work with studies, while 46% did not, compared to the overall sample where 53.56% were non-working students, and 46.44% worked.
