Abstract

Sumqayit, established in 1949 primarily for industrial purposes, is a city that continues to develop to this day. In the past, it was known for its large enterprises in heavy industry production, chemical, oil refining, and other sectors. Sumqayit is also one of the cities that has made significant contributions to the economy of Azerbaijan. The history of Sumqayit is mainly linked to the Soviet era. In the mid-20th century, the city stood out with its industrial production and large infrastructure projects. During the Soviet period, various heavy industries, including the chemical and oil industries, flourished here. This period also led to rapid urbanization and population growth in the city. After the Soviet era, Sumqayit has gone through a process of renewal in both economic and social fields. Alongside the chemical and metal industries, development has begun in new technologies and areas of ecological sustainability. The city's economy is undergoing a process of diversification, with new industries emerging, and development programs are being implemented in various sectors. While maintaining its industrial potential, the city is striving to further develop, apply modern technologies, and address ecological issues in the future.
