The exploitation and transportation of oil and gas, while crucial to the global economy, can cause significant environmental problems. These processes, involving the extraction, processing, and transportation of natural resources, are associated with various environmental risks. This article discusses the key ecological problems caused by oil and gas exploitation and transportation, as well as potential solutions. First and foremost, oil spills and gas leaks pose significant harm to the natural environment. These spills, occurring in both marine and terrestrial areas, have serious effects on aquatic ecosystems, soil, and local flora and fauna. Oil spills in particular, especially those in marine environments, threaten the lives of fish and other marine life, causing long-term damage to the ecosystem. Air pollution also remains a significant ecological issue. During the extraction and processing of oil and gas, harmful gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and others are released into the atmosphere, accelerating global warming. This contributes to climate change and exacerbates global environmental problems. Additionally, the disruption of ecosystems and the destruction of flora and fauna are consequences of these processes. The development and transportation of oil and gas fields often require interference with nature, leading to the destruction of natural habitats, the extinction of species, and a reduction in biodiversity. The article proposes several solutions to mitigate these environmental issues. Transitioning to sustainable energy sources, implementing clean technologies, and monitoring and regulating environmental impacts can help protect the environment. Furthermore, restorative measures and emergency response strategies can be used to preserve ecosystems. Overall, to address the environmental problems associated with oil and gas exploitation and transportation, cooperation and effective regulatory mechanisms between governments, international organizations, and companies are essential.
