FATHER’S INFLUENCE ON THE FORMATION OF A CHILD’S GENDER IDENTITY

Abstract

This research examines the figure of the father as a key factor in the development of a child’s gender identity and sexual attitudes. The father contributes to the formation of a sense of security and self-confidence. He exerts not only behavioral influence but also a deep emotional impact on the development of the child’s sexuality. The work emphasizes the importance of the father’s role in the harmonious development of the child.
A father's absence or emotional coldness can hinder the development of gender role behavior and negatively impact a child's self-esteem. Conversely, hypercriticism or aggressiveness on the part of the father can evoke feelings of fear and emotional detachment, influencing the nature of future interpersonal relationships. Conversely, in families where the father demonstrates respect, support, and emotional engagement, children are more likely to develop a stable gender identity and a positive attitude toward their gender role. A father's active involvement in upbringing promotes a more harmonious development of gender roles and reduces the likelihood of stereotypical distortions.
