ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF ASSESSMENT IN ENGLISH CLASSES
Abstract
Assessment has always been an essential component of the educational process, acting as a tool to measure students’ progress, understanding, and skill acquisition. In English language classrooms, traditional assessments such as written tests, quizzes, and standardized exams have long been the dominant methods. However, as educational philosophies evolve and the need for more student-centered learning increases, educators are beginning to question the effectiveness of these traditional assessments. Are conventional exams truly reflecting a learner’s language proficiency, or are they merely measuring test-taking abilities? This shift in perspective has led to the exploration and implementation of alternative assessment methods. These approaches offer more dynamic, authentic, and personalized ways to gauge a student's learning journey.
