Energy and Transit Projects – Security Guarantee of the South Caucasus Region

Abstract

This article examines the strategic role of energy and transit projects in the South Caucasus Region as key instruments of regional stability and sovereignty. It highlights how geopolitical shifts following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have transformed the region from a peripheral corridor into a central hub linking Europe and Asia. The study analyzes existing energy pipelines such as BTC, SCP, and the Southern Gas Corridor, as well as emerging initiatives including the Middle Corridor and renewable energy transit projects like the Black Sea Submarine Cable. By situating these infrastructures within broader security and geopolitical frameworks, the article argues that economic projects in the South Caucasus function not only as drivers of development but also as political tools reinforcing Western engagement and integration into global security architecture.
