Keywords:
biodiversity, ecology, traditional medicine, bioactive compoundsAbstract
This review article examines the importance of the shrub Calligonum leucocladum (white-stemmed caligonum), which grows in the desert regions of Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries. This unique species contributes to soil stabilization, reduces the risk of erosion, and supports biodiversity, playing a key role in the resilience of ecosystems vulnerable to desertification. With its deep root system and adaptation to arid conditions, C. leucocladum not only protects the soil but also serves as an important resource in traditional medicine. It is used as an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immune-stimulating remedy. The plant is rich in flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and other bioactive compounds, making it a promising candidate for the development of pharmaceutical products. Additionally, C. leucocladum has significant economic potential, promoting the growth of the pharmaceutical industry, and can be integrated into international environmental programs aimed at combating desertification and climate change
