REPRESENTATION OF TRANSPORTATION IN DRAWINGS BY PUPILS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

Abstract

The paper focuses on the representation of transportation in drawings by pupils with intellectual disabilities. The aim of the research was to analyse the representation of individual categories of transportation-related content in children's drawings and to examine whether differences exist in the way transportation-related reality is represented with regard to pupils' sex. The research sample consisted of 83 pupils with mild intellectual disabilities, aged 11–13 years, attending a special school. Quantitative content analysis was used to process the drawings, with individual motifs categorised into groups of motorised means of transport, other means of transport, and elements of the transportation environment. The results of Pearson's chi-square test and Fisher–Freeman–Halton exact test demonstrated a statistically significant association between pupils' sex and the way transportation was represented. The findings indicate different preferences in the representation of transportation motifs between girls and boys.
