The article elaborates the evaluation and criteria of student achievement in English classes. It has been underlined that competition is considered one the main ways of evaluation of student knowledge. Competitions play an indispensable role to raise the student motivation in the lesson process. Besides, monitoring is regarded a means of measure of student achievement. Control is a subsystem which performs its own functions within the training system on the whole, has its own object, its own methods. For this reason, control is the most crucial factor in language learning process. Students can also be controlled by evaluation.
