Several steps for ensuring the nuclear safety of Ukraine

Abstract

One of the goals of the Convention on Nuclear Safety is “to promote a high level of nuclear safety worldwide» through strengthening national measures and international co-operation1.

 Today ensuring nuclear safety worldwide became a priority in view of events that are taking place in Ukraine and Europe. Over the 7 months of the war in Ukraine, Russia and its military units have created threats for objects of peaceful use of nuclear energy in Ukraine. The capturing and occupation Chornobyl nuclear power plant (city Chornobyl Kyiv region), Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (city Energodar Zaporizhzhia region), shelling of the South-Ukrainian nuclear power plant (city Yuzhnoukrainsk, Mykolayiv region), Neutron Source Facility «Source of Neutrons» of the National Science Center «Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology» (city Kharkiv) have led to the emergence of new threats for nuclear safety worldwide and need to address this issue.
