Abstract

The article describes the leading sectors of the Georgian economy before Georgia's independence and their transformation during the transition to a market economy. It describes in detail the most severe economic downturn and its impact on GDP, which led the Georgian economy to collapse. It provides an overview of the most difficult period of 1989-1993.
