Located in western Azerbaijan, the Gazakh-Tovuz Economic Region offers substantial potential for ecotourism due to its rich natural resources, diverse landscapes, and biodiversity. This paper explores the prospects for ecotourism development and its sustainability in the region by analyzing its natural and cultural assets, as well as ecological, economic, and social impacts.
The study evaluates the region’s geographic features, climate conditions, and ecological balance, emphasizing its potential to become a key destination for ecological tourism. Despite its favorable conditions, the region’s tourism sector remains underdeveloped.
The findings suggest that strategic actions are needed, including the development of ecotourism routes, enhanced ecological education, increased investment from public and private sectors, biodiversity conservation, and the creation of eco-friendly infrastructure. A comprehensive and systematic approach, along with sustainable tourism policies, is essential to unlocking the region’s full potential and supporting its socio-economic development.
