Ensuring the rights of children in Kazakhstan

Abstract

The state policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of child protection is aimed at ensuring the rights and legitimate interests of children, protecting them from violence, preventing discrimination, and forming the legal basis for guaranteeing children's rights.

As of 2024, the child population of the republic is 6.8 million children, including 3.8 million schoolchildren, more than 2.5 million preschool children, and more than 400 thousand students of educational organizations[1].

According to article 27 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, childhood is protected by the State.

Every year, in his Message, the President notes the need to strengthen measures to protect the rights of minors. Penalties for crimes against the sexual integrity of minors have been tightened, measures are being taken to protect the rights of children, orphans, children left without parental care, as well as children with special needs.

The Committee for the Protection of the Children`s Rights of the Ministry of Education, a working body of the Commissioner for Children's Rights, educational and health organizations, police agencies, NGOs, commissions on juvenile affairs are empowered for protection of the rights of children.
