Abstract

The rapid development of technology and the globalization of society require high-quality experts in all fields. As these demands evolve, educational systems, teaching methods, and instructional technologies must also adapt to effectively prepare this “new” type of professional. One such approach is problem-based learning (PBL). Although often perceived as innovative, PBL is not a recent development; it originated in the late 1960s within medical education at McMaster Medical University. In the 1980s, the University of New Mexico introduced applied courses for several students, and then Harvard Medical School introduced this method into its teaching practice.

Over time, the PBL has expanded from medicine to many disciplines such as architecture, economics, pedagogy, music, law and political science. Today, it has become an integral part of modern teaching methodology worldwide and is applied across diverse academic fields.
