Abstract

The Sheki-Zaqatala economic region, particularly its key historical and geographical center, the city of Sheki, possesses rich natural-recreational and cultural-historical resources. In this research paper, the assessment of Sheki region's tourism ecosystem and the zoning of its recreational potential were conducted based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methodology. Utilizing the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) algorithm, physical-geographic and socio-economic factors—including topography (slope, aspect), vegetation cover (NDVI), hydrography, and transportation-infrastructure networks—were mathematically weighted. As a result of the spatial analysis, the territory of Sheki was classified into optimal recreational zones based on specific tourism types (ecotourism, mountain-sports, and cultural-historical tourism), and a regional sustainable development model was proposed
