Abstract

In the present article the problem of rendering of the term “slang” is considered. The retrospective analysis of the use and rendering of the concept of “slang” is conducted in modern linguistics. The problem of slang is still no longer solved in modern linguistics. The slang has its specification and interpretation in different linguistic traditions, making it disputable. The investigators attempt to give their explanation for this phenomenon.

In their understanding slang is predominantly youth vocabulary that has a wide social basis of functioning and creates, by its emotionality and emotionally coloured speech, in contrast to the words and expressions of a neutral stylistic tone.
