SPORTS AS A LANGUAGE OF DIPLOMACY: STRENGTHENING CONNECTIONS THROUGH HOSTING COMPETITIONS

The article examines the role of sports in strengthening peace and harmony among countries on the international stage, emphasizing the importance of sports diplomacy. Historical examples illustrate the effectiveness of using sports to resolve conflicts in international relations. Instances such as «cricket diplomacy» between India and Pakistan or «ping-pong diplomacy» between China and the United States demonstrate how sports contribute to fostering unity and mutual understanding. Similarly, sports interactions between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea are discussed as having helped reduce tensions. The article also addresses the potential misuse of sports as a tool for political pressure, highlighting political conflicts involving athletes and nations during the Olympic Games and other major competitions. To enhance the positive impact of sports on peace and friendship among nations, the article proposes solutions such as maintaining neutrality in international sports organizations, developing cultural diplomacy, and introducing common rules and codes of conduct. Additionally, the unique role of sports in promoting tourism and national cultural heritage is highlighted, explored in greater depth through the example of the V World Nomad Games held in Kazakhstan. Finally, the article stresses the importance of viewing sports primarily as a pathway to unity and peace, rather than as an instrument for political leverage on the international stage
