ON CHARACTERISTICS OF EPIC TIME IN MAGICAL AND RELIGIOUS TALES

Abstract

The article investigates the features of epic time in magical and religious tales in Azerbaijan folklore. It is noted that the epic time is considered a subjective time, as it is formed according to the poetic characteristics of the fairy tale groups, their social function and the idea that they instill in the society. The article also analyzes issues of time in magical and religious tales, unlike the other groups of fairy tales,   they have fantastic characters and in religious tales, time is organized on the basis of religious and moral values based on examples of Azerbaijani fairy tales.

The article mentions that in magical tales, the one who has magical powers is also the master of time, the hero who has magical powers can move time forward or backward, bring the dead person back to life. In a word, magical power gives the hero endless power. The article also analyses that since time together with space constitutes the poetic system of fairy tales, it also becomes a distinguishing feature of fairy tale groups. In religious tales, the depiction of time is beyond human will, time's subservience to man, not man's will, the power of time belongs only to God, and his ability to speed up or slow down time are also investigated.
