BIOMETRIC AND EMOTION MONITORING IN DISTANCE EDUCATION: A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS
Keywords:
distance education, biometric analysis, emotion monitoring, e-learning, student engagementAbstract
Biometric and emotion analysis are increasingly being used to understand how students engage and learn in online education. However, as research is scattered across different fields and learning contexts, it is difficult to clearly identify key trends, major studies, and the most influential authors and documents. In this paper, we used a bibliometric approach to organize and map research on biometric and emotion monitoring in distance education. 832 records were collected from the Scopus database, covering the period from 2015 to 2025. The search query is applied using several keywords: (1) expressions related to “distance/online education” and (2) terms related to “biometric/emotion monitoring”. We addressed five research questions: publication trends over time, document types, research areas, and citation networks at both the document and author levels. VOSviewer software and Microsoft Excel were used to visualize the dataset. The aim of this study is to identify research gaps in the field of biometrics and emotion monitoring in distance education. We provide a roadmap for future research to support more focused research and better connections between technical methods and learning needs.
