Abstract

This article examines the role of French investments in Kazakhstan as a strategic instrument of economic diplomacy. Amid shifting geopolitical landscapes and growing competition for Central Asian markets, economic engagement has evolved beyond pure commercial interest into a vital tool for bilateral relations. Utilizing a qualitative and empirical approach, the study analyzes major French corporate footprints in Kazakhstan – particularly in energy, infrastructure, and mining – and evaluates their impact on diplomatic ties and regional stability. The findings indicate that France’s economic strategy in Kazakhstan serves not only mutual commercial benefits but also strengthens Paris's geopolitical positioning in Central Asia.

This scientific article examines the strategic role of European Union investments in Kazakhstan as a vital instrument of modern economic diplomacy. Amid shifting global geopolitical landscapes and evolving trade corridors, the European Union remains one of the largest foreign investors in the Central Asian region. The study analyzes the bilateral economic frameworks, including the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, to understand how foreign direct investment transcends traditional commercial interests to foster deeper diplomatic alignment, institutional reform, and regional stability. Special attention is devoted to the diversification of Kazakhstan's economy away from hydrocarbon dependency, focusing on EU-backed initiatives in critical raw materials, renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and digitalization.

Utilizing a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative trade-flow analysis with qualitative policy evaluation, the research assesses the mutual benefits and challenges inherent in these economic partnerships. The findings highlight that European investments serve not only as capital injections but as soft-power mechanisms that facilitate regulatory harmonization, enhance governance standards, and strengthen Kazakhstan's multi-vector foreign policy.

Ultimately, the paper concludes that economic diplomacy driven by targeted France investments creates a resilient framework for long-term geopolitical cooperation, balancing European resource security needs with Kazakhstan's modernization objectives.
