Abstract

Language is a part of any national culture. Therefore, teaching English should be in close connection with the cultural features of English-speaking countries. Intercultural approach combines the linguistic and the cultural competences. This paper confirms the effectiveness of intercultural competence formation by means of gaming technology. The following research methods were used: theoretical analysis and synthesis of scientific literature on the topic, test and experiment. The paper provides a theoretical basis, experimental verification of gaming technologies complex for intercultural competence formation in English lessons. The article gives an overview of the approaches to the definition and component structure of the intercultural communicative competence; the specifics of the use of gaming technology in the con- text of intercultural approach to teaching foreign languages is discussed; assessment criteria for English language textbooks on the intercultural approach implementation are suggested; the analysis of the English language textbooks is provided; diagnostics of students’ intercultural competence level is held; complex of gaming technologies, aimed at improving intercultural communicative competence is created; experimental research work on the development of intercultural communicative competence is carried out. The following research can serve as a basis for studying the theoretical foundations of the intercultural approach to the English language teaching in secondary, high school and in the framework of professional education, as well as for the development of gaming technologies, structured by types of speech activity and levels of language proficiency.
