Abstract

The exceptional importance of maintaining the ecological balance and sustainability of natural resources poses challenges to humanity in the field of waste management. In the era of the latest technologies, space monitoring is becoming a powerful tool for solving these problems, providing unique opportunities in the field of landfill detection, analysis and control. This article focuses on the environmental benefits that space monitoring can provide in the context of effective landfill management and minimizing their negative impact on the environment.

The problem of waste management is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time, especially with increasing urbanization and population growth. Space-based monitoring provides unique opportunities to accurately determine the scale of this problem, providing data that covers vast areas and allows detailed analysis of the distribution of landfills.

First of all, highly resolved satellite images allow us to determine the exact geographical coordinates of landfills and their relief position. This is important for identifying landfills in remote or hard-to-reach areas where traditional monitoring methods may face difficulties.

Modern satellite technologies also provide the opportunity to create three-dimensional terrain models, which improves understanding of the volume and depth of landfills. This information is necessary to assess the potential impact of waste on groundwater and adjacent ecosystems.
