Abstract

This article discusses the historical development and contemporary importance of qualitative research in psychology. Although there is a wealth of literature on qualitative research methodology, questions still remain about their use and validity. The article traces the evolution of qualitative methods starting from ancient philosophical traditions to modern psychological practice. The important contributions of researchers such as Gordon Allport, Abraham Maslow, and Lawrence Kohlberg are discussed. We also reviewed in short of how qualitative research was used by D. Uznadze and Georgian researchers. The analysis given in this article shows that qualitative research provides essential insights into human behavior and experience that complement quantitative approaches.
