Abstract

Introduction:

Stroke is a serious global public health problem with significant socio-economic impact, leading to premature mortality and disability. It is projected that by 2030, about 75% of mortality will be due to non-communicable diseases [1]. The importance of the issue is underscored by the "Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases 2013-2020" [2], which aims to standardize national goals and monitoring. According to the Global Burden of Diseases studies, stroke remains the second most significant cause of death worldwide [3,4].

Purpose: Our study aims to analyze the socio-economic burden of stroke in the Republic of Kazakhstan, identify the main risk factors, and investigate the trends in morbidity and mortality from stroke, as well as assess the direct and indirect expenses associated with the treatment and subsequent rehabilitation of patients [5, 6, 7].

Research objective: To analyze the socio-economic burden of stroke in the Republic of Kazakhstan, identify key risk factors, study trends in stroke incidence and mortality, as well as assess direct and indirect costs associated with treatment and subsequent patient rehabilitation.

Methods: Analysis of official statistics on stroke incidence and mortality in the Republic of Kazakhstan, conducting a literature review to identify key risk factors and modern treatment approaches, as well as statistical analysis to assess trends in incidence and mortality. Additionally, economic analysis will be used to assess direct and indirect costs of treatment and patient rehabilitation. The study also includes analysis of medical protocols and programs to identify possible areas for improving stroke management in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Results:

The analysis of official statistics from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan revealed that more than 40 thousand cases of stroke are registered annually, a significant portion of which result in fatal outcomes in the early days [5]. The study showed that the loss of working capacity due to stroke surpasses all other causes, with more than half of the patients becoming disabled [4, 8]. This confirms that stroke is not only a medical but also a social problem that requires special attention [9,10].

Conclusions:

The substantial socio-economic burden of stroke in Kazakhstan requires the development of new strategies to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of this disease [11,12]. Special attention should be paid to monitoring and managing the main risk factors, such as arterial hypertension and atrial fibrillation [13,14], as well as researching new approaches to prevent the progression of neurological symptoms in the acute phase of the disease [14,15].
